New Rapid City group pushes more inclusive workplace

If hiring someone with a disability seems like a big gamble, employers across the Black Hills and all of South Dakota should keep in mind that statistics show three of four people will become disabled at some point in their lives. So, odds are that almost all of us will eventually face the challenge of landing, or holding onto, a job with some kind of disability in play, according to Catherine Greseth, executive director of the new group Workforce Diversity Network of the Black Hills, whose mission is to link employers with qualified disabled employees.

Greseth also noted that nine of 10 disabilities come from illness and not accidents or by birth, and that a disability is defined as something that affects two or more aspects of daily life.
