Bill would ease compensation for first responders with PTSD

COLUMBIA — Amid concerns of opening a Pandora’s Box of compensation claims and expenses, a bipartisan group of South Carolina senators is pushing to extend workers’ compensation to first responders diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder.

“If you believe PTSD is real, then we need to be properly taking care of those that are taking care of us,” said Sen. Paul Thurmond, R- Charleston, lead sponsor of the bill, S. 429.
