USD 501 unveils planned cuts to spending Cuts include central administration and total about half a million dollars more than expected


The Topeka Unified School District 501 school board is considering cutting about half a million dollars more in spending next year than previously expected, in case the Legislature hits the district with further budget cuts.

On Thursday, district administrators unveiled their proposals for $1.83 million in cuts, about $518,000 more than needed if the Legislature honors the district’s budget.Lawmakers passed K-12 funding in March. The legislation included cuts to operating or maintenance funds for most schools.
