Residential school hope and leaving the past

“When I left the residential school in 1950 the door was closed. I wanted to carry on with my life. I don’t want to hear this again. Just finish it. It was done – completed. I left it the way it is. There were some bad apples but you learn to shake it off. That’s what brought me to where I am.”

– Fred Sasakamoose, NHL great first Canadian aboriginal pro hockey player
