Disabled population rises by 48% in 10 years

RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh’s disabled population has witnessed a whopping rise of 48% from 2001 to 2011 with the number of disabled going up from 4.19 lakh to 6.24 lakh during the period. These include 2.31 lakh males and 1.88 lakh females.

According to the latest Census Report (2011), number of disabled people in rural areas of Chhattisgarh are higher than those in urban areas. As compared to a mere 1.26 lakh disabled people in urban areas, rural areas account for 4.98 lakh. The main reason of higher number of disability cases in rural areas is the lack of knowledge of proper health care, which usually ends up in delayed treatments.
