‘Lack of infrastructure a deterrent for corporates to hire people with disabilities’


ack of adequate infrastructure to support people with disabilities and inability to understand the skills and capacities of persons with disability, act as a hindrance for corporate companies to recruit them.Aaron Raman, convener of the corporate social responsibility panel, Confederation of Indian Industry-Karnataka, said that many of the 450 members were concerned about the safety and employability issues.

“There is a need to conduct a series of programmes and ensure that corporates and those working with people with disabilities can engage with one another,” he said.Sandesha B.G., an MBA graduate who has physical disabilties, working for a corporate company, said: “Getting employment in corporate companies itself is a challenge. I tried to get a job in 15 different places before I landed with one. Very often managers rejected my application even before the interview by just looking at my physical disability.”
