MUMBAI: Mental health experts in the city have demanded that the government take initiatives for well-being of students with disability after they complete 18 years of ageRecently, over 30 students from a special needs school were asked to leave as they had completed 25 years of age and the school wanted to accommodate students on the wait list. “We cannot afford expensive care for our children and if the school asks us to leave, they will have nowhere to go,” said a parent.
“There is no centre for students with disability once they complete 18 years. There is an urgent need of policy and investment from the government. There must be homes and training centres for these students where they can continue after they complete school,” said senior psychiatrist Dr Harish Shetty.
