SAG shocker: No facilities for disabled spectators

Guwahati: For wheelchair-borne Arman Ali, an avid shooter, an attempt to watch the shooting events of the ongoing 12th South Asian Games (SAG) on Wednesday turned into a humiliating experience he would never forget.Ali had gone to the rifle shooting range in the city to see shooters from eight countries compete against one another, but was stopped in his tracks by a steep ramp that proved impossible to manoeuvre.

Four people had to be called out to push his wheelchair up the ramp, leaving him embarrassed and angry.
“The experience was humiliating. The SAG is an international event and the absence of basic infrastructure for the disabled is simply shocking. The ramp at the shooting range was a joke. I had to be pushed despite having a good wheelchair,” said Ali, who is also the executive director of Shishu Sarothi, a voluntary organization working for the disabled.
