CHENNAI: GNANA Bharathi, a disabled scientist who once did research in Geology, has been posted as a librarian for almost a decade. Ever since a spinal injury during a train accident in 2002, Gnana’s requests to work in the Environmental Technology Division of the government-run Central Leather Research Institute have fallen on deaf years. Activists say this is a clear case of discrimination under Persons with Disability Act and UN Conventions.
Narrating his story while sitting on on his automated wheel chair, Gnana recalled that fateful day at Chrompet. “I was crossing the rail line. I don’t remember anything else, except I woke up five days later. Since then everything changed,” he shared woefully.
