In the school-age group of 5-19 there were about 65.7 lakh disabled children out of which 26.7 % have never attended any school, 12.1% has dropped out in the last decade while 61.2% are attending school.
In numbers, 17.5 lakh of the disabled population has never attended any school, eight lakh has dropped out of schools in the last decade while 40.2 lakh people are attending school.
Among the disabled the number of people with ‘multiple disability’ were the highest who had never attended schools and stood at 54.4 %, followed by those with ‘mental illness’ at 50.3% and ‘mental retardation’ at 41.2 % whereas persons with ‘any other disability’ stood at 17.7 % the least.
