HYDERABAD: For the first time, the Election Commission of India has announced that it would appoint Sugam Election Accessibility Observers for the benefit of persons with disabilities. The move is aimed at ensuring wider participation in the electoral process.
The observers would be responsible for transportation of persons with disabilities to polling booths. A nodal transport officer would be appointed for each district. Each and every PwDs will be tagged, polling station wise, and he/she would be picked up from residence and dropped back there after the vote is cast.
