First Learning Disability certificate of Central India issued by GMCH

The first certificate under Unique Disability Identity Card for learning disability was issued at Government Medical College and Hospital here on Monday. It is no mean feat as the LD Clinic started functioning at GMCH just in second week of February. The issuance of LD certificate also marks a watershed moment, as it ends dependence on Mumbai and Pune for certification for students from Vidarbha.
The credit goes to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis who fulfilled promise made during the monsoon session of Maharashtra Legislature that LD clinics will be opened across all GMCHs in State. A local organisation Scholastic Operations for Academically Handicapped and Mentorship (SOHAM), a city based organisation, played a sterling role in  lobbying with State Government and convincing Chief Minister the need for putting and end to difficulties faced by students of Vidarbha region in getting certification.
